| Welcome to the Royal Arts Fencing Academy! Hello, my name is Julia Richey and I'm the fencing master at Royal Arts. At Royal Arts, my goal is to help you become a great fencer – a great fencer! I teach in the modern Russian style. I was a 13 year member of the Russian fencing team, with nine years in foil and four years in epee and won my Master of Fencing title (similar to an "A" rating here in the United States) in my fourth year of fencing. My students range in age from five to fifty-five years old, and from students to stay-at-home parents to corporate CEO's. Fencing is a sport for everyone! | ||
So who makes a great fencer? Fencers tend to be people with good heads on their shoulders. Fencing, in my opinion, is 60 to 80% mental game. Sometimes called "physical chess", fencing is a game of strategy and control. Fencing doesn't give advantage to tall or short or thin or heavy people (although it burns a lot of energy, so it is a great way to stay in shape), nor does it give advantage to men or women. Fencing teaches strategic thinking, confidence, timing, coordination, the ability to "read people", and how to be cool under fire. One of the greatest skills is the ability to relax and calmly wait for just the right moment when someone is running at you with a sword! And mamatchki! is it fun when you figure someone out and win them for the touch. |

| Who is welcome? Everyone is welcome! I have classes for children, teenagers and adults and open fencing for people who care to join us for bouting. The times we meet are on our schedule. If you are interested in competitions, we travel to many tournaments locally and nationally, and have members competing to qualify for the Junior Olympics and the Nationals. | ||
So join me! Whether you are brand new to fencing or have been fencing for years, I would love to meet you and have you get involved in my program in this most Royal of Arts. Thank you!
